Estuaries, Video documentation of performance, Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin 2024

“Body is key. Performances on the works call for a different audience-performer-work of art relationship. The audience is usually in the center and we envelope it, while at the same time facing away from it. There are times when a performer needs to cross a room full of visitors in order to get to a specific work that they are activating next. I guide the performers to cross as though there is no one there, no eye contact, no stopping. I view our performance as ritualistic, tribal, in that sense the visitors have more of a voyeuristic role. We, the performers, are in a vulnerable position –on the same level, or lower than the audience, disregarding the audience helps us stay focused and empowered as a group. The feeling is that the performances would happen with or without the audience being there.”
